Sex And The City

“Maybe our girlfriends are our soul mates and guys are just people to have fun with.” – Candace Bushnell

How true can the above lines be? Very True! God has made girlfriends because they not only understand us but also stand for us in every wrong and right. Over the weekend, I have been watching Sex And The City Movie 1 and 2 and also a few episodes from the series. I was so into it that I almost saw a dream related to it.

There was a time when I detested SATC and the fans, because I felt SATC is utter Television disgust and the fans are nothing but wannabe’s. Perhaps, I have become a wannabe! Yeah, I have quite become the fan of the SATC and the girls and their friendship goals. These girls are so like me and my BFF, whom you all know from here.

I don’t do the friendship thing with a lot of people. I have only one Best Friend and maybe a couple of friends, maybe!?! Anyway, I have just one best friend and I feel we 2 are equals to the 4 SATC girls. Honestly, it could be the obsession and over dose of SATC, but yeah I could see ‘us’ in them.

People who know me and my best friend know for the fact that we are inseparable. We have been together for 10 years now and it’s been quite a journey. I really don’t know about her, but I am very positive that in 2016, we are going to have a label of ‘Traveller’ in our wall of fame.

I can see travel bags and shopping and food in my dreams, so I am very much positive that travel is going to be on the cards. You know this is one of those feelings that you can visualize! We both have got our hearts broken and as usual we are sailing on the same boat, so might as well take the boat out somewhere and enjoy the seafood.

Getting back to the topic, similarities between SATC girls and ShraMita (Shrabani and Ashmita):

Carrie Bradshaw (CB) is a writer, who is independent, believes in love but also knows all the problems that relationships have. She is a fashion freak and loves her closets.

Miranda Hobbes (MH) is a lawyer, again independent, in the early episodes she was portrayed as masculine and someone who is disrespectful of men; however, later softens. Not to forget she is a workaholic.

Charlotte York (CY) is the most conservative of the 4 ladies’. She is kind of the family-woman type.

Samantha Jones (SJ) owns her PR Company. She is highly sexual in nature and usually straight-forward. She is a very loyal friend.

These characters of the SATC girls are mentioned above for those who aren’t aware of them. For people who are a hardcore SATC fans, I am sorry, I had to put it in short because of the content constraints.

In reality, the characters of these girls are made up with the intentions that it matches the characteristics of every girl. These characteristics are real but very unusual to be present in one single group. This is just a representation of some most commonly found and powerful qualities in women. However, I and my best friend actually have ‘most’ of the qualities that these women posses.

Shrabani is independent, believes in love (CB) and has a realistic approach towards love and life (MH). She is more of the wifey material and wants to have her own family, someday (CY). She is slim (model like figure) and quite a fashion freak (CB). Her career option as a teenager was to be a ‘Homemaker’ (CY). She gives relationship and love more importance than lust (CY). She is a great friend (SJ). She is straight-forward in her approach towards people (SJ).

Ashmita (that’s me) is independent and a writer (aspiring to be one) (CB). She believes in love but gives more important to lust (SJ). She can be quite straightforward too (SJ). She is a workaholic only if she loves what she is doing (MH). She often falls in and out of love (SJ).

We have been telling our guys (ex-guys) that we are soul mates. Was that the reason we are single now? Naah! That’s a different story. The break up is hurtful, but you know what matters? This quote from Sex and The City, series:

“And finally, the most important break up rule: no matter who broke your heart, or how long it takes to heal, you’ll never go through it, without your friends.”

We broke up with our guys, and we are still struggling with life, though we called it off ourselves, it hurts. But it is simpler for me because, I have her in my life.

Well, that’s us in a nutshell. In the society that I come from it will be considered to be very wrong to compare a girl with Samantha Jones, but seems like I have her traits more. However, I remember we used to work in a company and Shrabani’s pseudo name was Samantha Jones there. However, seems like she is more of Charlotte York.

Something that I really loved about these SATC girls is that, they have kept their friendship over everything. They are extremely successful in their lives and always take time out for the girls. Shrabani and I usually go so deep into talking that we forget where we are. We can talk endlessly about anything, from Global News to Current affairs (of our life).

One thing that I really learnt from these girls is that, there’s no point in judging your friends, but yes supporting them; that thing we should be good at.

A special sorry to all the SATC fan girls who have been trying to convince me how good the movie and series is. I loved the movies and the series, not because of the dresses they wore but for the characteristics of each one of them.

Here are a few quotes I loved from the movie:

“Some love stories aren’t epic novels, some are short stories

But, that doesn’t make them any less filled with love.” Carrie

“Maybe you’re only allotted a certain amount of tears per man; and I’ve used mine up.” Carrie; after Big goofs up the wedding.

“I’m gonna say the one thing you aren’t supposed to say. I love you… but I love me more. I’ve been in a relationship with myself for 49 years and that’s the one I need to work on.” Samantha to Smith while breaking up with him.

“It wasn’t logic, it was love.” Carrie

  1. I seldom watched the series but I do love the theme, character and learning shared by them. I agree they are very good example of our girlfriends, I always love the moment having argue, chit chat or simply spending time with them.
